Palaces

Two palaces.

They photograph differently and close on different days. We schedule around both.

Gyeongbokgung — hanbok photography by Aurea Studio

Gyeongbokgung 경복궁

The largest, and the usual choice. Wide courtyards, the Geunjeongjeon throne hall, mountains behind. Best before 10 a.m.

Closed Tuesdays

Changgyeonggung — hanbok photography by Aurea Studio

Changgyeonggung 창경궁

The quiet one. Sloping grounds, a glass greenhouse, softer light. Fewer visitors at any hour.

Closed Mondays

Hanbok

Choosing your hanbok.

We start at a rental shop near the palace gate: hundreds of garments, about 40 minutes to choose and get fitted. Staff handle fitting and skirt structure, and simple braided styling is included.

Rental is 40,000–90,000 KRW depending on the garment, paid at the shop. Wearing hanbok makes palace admission free.

FAQ

Questions we get.

Where do we meet, and how do I get there?

We meet at Gyeongbokgung Station (Seoul Subway Line 3), Exit 4, ten minutes before your booked time. The station is one stop from Anguk and about 20 minutes by taxi from Myeongdong. Your photographer will be holding a small Aurea Studio sign.

Which hanbok rental shop do you recommend?

You don't need to choose one. We meet you at the station and walk you to the shop we work with, a few minutes from the palace gate, and stay while you pick. Rental is 40,000–90,000 KRW depending on the fabric, paid at the shop. If you've already booked elsewhere, tell us and we'll meet you there instead.

Do I need to reserve the hanbok rental in advance?

No. We walk in together and you choose on the day. On peak weekends in April and October the racks thin out by midday, which is one reason to take an early slot.

What time should I arrive, and how long does the whole thing take?

Ten minutes before your booked time, at Gyeongbokgung Station (Line 3), Exit 4 — not at the rental shop. Allow about two hours end to end: roughly 40 minutes to choose your hanbok and get fitted, then 60 minutes of shooting inside the palace.

Do I need to book the palace entrance separately?

No. Palace admission is free for anyone wearing hanbok, so your rental covers it. If you shoot in your own clothes instead, admission is 3,000 KRW per adult at Gyeongbokgung, paid at the gate.

What will the whole thing cost, including the hanbok?

The session is ₩150,000 (about $110) per adult and ₩80,000 for each child aged 15 or under. Five guests or more is a flat ₩500,000 for the whole group. Hanbok rental is 40,000–90,000 KRW per person on top, paid at the shop, and palace admission is free while you are wearing it. For one adult a typical total lands around ₩190,000–240,000.

Which palace should we choose?

Gyeongbokgung has the widest courtyards, the Geunjeongjeon throne hall and a mountain backdrop; it's best before 10 a.m. Changgyeonggung is quieter, with sloping grounds and softer light. If you're unsure, we book Gyeongbokgung.

Which days are the palaces closed?

Gyeongbokgung closes on Tuesdays. Changgyeonggung closes on Mondays. We schedule around these, so there is always a palace open on any day of the week.

What time of day photographs best?

Morning, clearly. Gyeongbokgung before 10 a.m. gives low light on the granite and courtyards that are still nearly empty; by midday the same frames are full of visitors. Sessions start on the hour from 10 a.m., with the last start at 4 p.m. — so afternoons are available. If that's what your trip allows, book Changgyeonggung, which holds soft light and stays quiet all day.

What's included in the price?

A private photographer for your group, 60 minutes of shooting inside the palace, 300+ frames taken, 15 edited photos delivered within 48 hours, and 2 Polaroid prints. Hanbok rental (40,000–90,000 KRW, paid at the shop) is separate so you can choose exactly the garment you want.

How many photos do I get, and when?

You receive all unedited previews to choose from, then 15 fully edited photos — color grading, skin retouching — within 48 hours, as a download link sent to your email or WhatsApp. The 48 hours run from your choice, so choosing within a day of the shoot has them with you two days after it. The two Polaroid prints are shot and printed on the spot, and you take them home the same day.

Can we shoot on a rainy day?

Light rain shoots go ahead; wet stone and empty courtyards photograph well. In heavy rain you get a free reschedule to any open date, or a full refund if your travel dates don't allow one.

Do you have hanbok in my size?

The shop we work with stocks hanbok from children's sizes up to roughly 2XL (chest 120 cm / waist 110 cm), and skirts are wrap-style, so fit is forgiving. If you're concerned, message us your measurements and we'll confirm with the shop before you fly.

Does the makeup package include hair styling?

Hair styling — braiding and traditional accessories — comes with the hanbok rental, so it's included either way. Makeup is separate and not part of the session price. Most guests arrive in their everyday makeup, which reads fine on camera.

Can I bring my own clothes instead of hanbok?

Yes. The session works the same in your own outfit — many couples shoot in suits and dresses. Note that without hanbok, palace admission (3,000 KRW per adult) applies.

How far in advance should I book?

Two to three weeks ahead is usually enough. For April (cherry blossom) and late October (autumn foliage), book four to six weeks ahead — the early slots go first.

Do you shoot solo travelers? Families? Groups?

All of them. Solo portraits, couples, families and groups of friends all book the same session. Up to four people it is ₩150,000 per adult and ₩80,000 for each child 15 or under. Five or more is ₩500,000 for the whole group, whoever is in it — so a group of six pays less per head than a couple does.

Can you photograph just my child?

We don't run child-only sessions; every booking needs at least one participating adult. Children 15 and under are ₩80,000 each rather than the ₩150,000 adult rate, and they get the same session and the same photographs. From 16 the adult rate applies.
